Active Communities Grant Program
The Active Communities Grant Program in the Interior and Island Health regions is managed by BC Healthy Communities Society and supported by the BC Physical Activity Strategy. In August 2017 grants were awarded to 15 local governments, including six First Nations communities, one Métis Chartered Community, six municipalities, and two regional districts. Funded projects must have been able to demonstrate how they will improve population-level physical activity through access and inclusivity, healthy community design, or healthy public policy. Successful projects range from active transportation planning to the development of community recreation areas, and must be completed by the end of October 2018. BC Healthy Communities staff support project leads in each community, encouraging program monitoring and evaluation, sustainability planning, and use of an equity (fairness!) lens.
