Digital technologies have become embedded in the daily lives of Canadians. While digital media can support learning, communication, creativity and social connection, growing evidence suggests that the harms associated with excessive and poorly regulated digital engagement extend beyond screen time.
Canada now has an opportunity to adopt a modern digital protection framework that addresses the root causes of online harms by regulating platform design, limiting manipulative technologies, strengthening AI safeguards, and ensuring children and youth’s wellbeing is placed ahead of commercial interests.
