In this five-part Communities Going Active series, we will hear about local governments and groups that launched projects to promote and encourage the use of active transportation in their communities. These projects address barriers that prevent people from trying out cycling or even scootering, such as costs, lack of gear, or perhaps lack of experience.
In this episode, we talk to Danica Burwash, the Project Manager at Doctors and Nurses for Planetary Health, which is based in Nelson. We’ll hear about how her organization worked with the City of Nelson to provide essential active transportation gear to community members and how their initiative encouraged residents to cycle all-year round, including in snow and frigid temperatures.
