BCAHL’s statement on the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation

Working Together

Truth and Reconciliation Day acknowledges the history of residential schools and violent efforts to eradicate Indigenous cultures and peoples. This day also recognizes our collective journey to reconciliation, with each imperfect step made. The harms of colonization touch every facet of health – physical, mental, emotional, environmental, spiritual, social – and contribute significantly to health inequities in our communities.

As a health organization, our mission and responsibility is to advance policies and initiatives that address health inequities, remove barriers to healthy living, and prevent chronic disease. We are grateful to work alongside Indigenous organizations and governments on these shared goals today and every day.
