Healthy Food and Beverages at School, Work and Play
Good policy and practice are changing the way schools, recreation facilities and local government buildings approach and present food choices. From 2007-2010 schools received customized support from Dietitians of Canada as they implemented provincial school guidelines for food and beverage sales. The BC Recreation and Parks Association, along with the Union of BC Municipalities, ensured local government buildings and recreation facilities also received the support to make vital changes to their food and beverage selections. At school, work or play, BCAHL is helping to make the healthy choice the easy choice. The Province of BC continues to support the phone and online supports for schools, parents and communities to determine which choices to ‘choose most’.

Recreation centres have a leadership role within the community to promote a healthy, active lifestyle which includes both healthy eating and staying active. In government buildings, providing healthy choices in vending machines, snack bars and food concessions is good for both healthy eating and staying active which is good for both workers and the public.
