All Youth Matter – Youth Inclusion Training
Many youth face significant barriers to participation in sport, recreation and physical activity, and research indicates that those from marginalized populations are less likely to participate than their peers. After consultation with nearly 500 recreation staff, 250 youth and 150 inclusion experts, viaSport has developed half-day Youth Inclusion Training workshops for physical activity, recreation and sport leaders across the province. This training is designed to empower and equip learners to address the barriers that inhibit participation, and create inclusive, safe and welcoming environments for all youth. Real stories from the youth interviewed are used to demonstrate techniques and approaches that can foster a sense of belonging, regardless of a youth’s identity or experience. This training is an important step toward increasing participation among youth at the margins, by creating more inclusive, positive and fun opportunities for all.
